Pre Baby Body

Breast augmentation has entered a new era, and the Preservé™ technique is leading it. This less invasive approach is designed to enhance breast shape and fullness while protecting the natural structures of the breast — the chest muscle, supporting ligaments, blood supply, and the nerves that govern sensation. Paired with next-generation Motiva® implants, Preservé offers New York City patients a refined, natural-looking result with remarkably little downtime, making it one of the most advanced options available today.

Dr. Joshua D. Zuckerman, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon recognized by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and selected as a New York Times SuperDoctor four years in a row. Trained at Brown University and New York University, he is one of only a select few plastic surgeons in New York City to have completed the specialized, hands-on certification required to perform the Preservé technique — placing this advanced approach within reach of patients who want the latest in breast augmentation close to home.

What Is the Preservé™ Technique?

motiva logo

The Preservé technique is a less invasive breast augmentation method developed by the makers of Motiva implants and built around the preservation of your natural anatomy. Rather than dividing the chest muscle and creating a large surgical pocket, the technique uses purpose-built instruments — including a tissue-elongating device that gently forms the implant pocket above the muscle and a no-touch insertion sleeve — to guide the implant into place through a smaller incision.

Because the approach is designed to spare the pectoral muscle, supporting ligaments, blood supply, and the nerves that govern nipple sensation, many patients experience less discomfort and a quicker return to everyday life. The Preservé technique is performed exclusively with Motiva SmoothSilk® Ergonomix® implants and is generally suited to patients seeking a natural, proportionate enhancement rather than a dramatic increase in size.

“Preservé reflects where breast augmentation is heading — working with a patient’s anatomy rather than against it. For the right candidate, that means a more natural result and a gentler recovery.”

— Dr. Zuckerman

Motiva® with the Preservé Technique

A Recovery Designed to Fit Your Life

One of the most appealing aspects of the Preservé technique is how little it asks of your schedule. Because the approach preserves the chest muscle and relies on smaller incisions, many patients experience markedly less downtime than they expect — often taking as little as a single day away from work before easing back into their routine.

  • Minimal Downtime: Many Preservé patients return to light, non-strenuous activity within a day or two of surgery.
  • Mom-Friendly Recovery: A gentler healing process is especially welcome for busy mothers balancing a household and children.
  • Summer-Ready: With a quicker, more comfortable recovery, patients can plan their procedure around the season and look forward to enjoying a New York City summer.
  • Natural, Subtle Results: Preservé is ideal for those seeking a proportionate, natural enhancement rather than a dramatic change.

Recovery experiences vary from patient to patient, and Dr. Zuckerman will give you a realistic timeline based on your individual anatomy, goals, and lifestyle during your consultation.

What Is Motiva® Breast Augmentation?

Motiva implants received U.S. FDA approval in September 2024 for primary and revision breast augmentation in women age 22 and older — the first new silicone breast implant approved through the FDA’s premarket approval process since 2013. The implants feature the patented SmoothSilk surface, engineered for high biocompatibility and associated in clinical study with a low inflammatory response.

Two styles are available. The Ergonomix® implant uses an adaptive gel designed to move like natural breast tissue, settling into a teardrop shape when standing and a rounder shape when lying down. The Round implant maintains a fuller, more consistent upper-pole shape regardless of position. Dr. Zuckerman helps each patient weigh these options alongside his full range of breast implant choices during a personalized consultation.

Why Dr. Zuckerman Chose Motiva® and Preservé

Dr. Zuckerman has built his reputation on natural, non-operated-looking results and a low surgical complication rate. The Preservé technique aligns closely with that philosophy: smaller incisions, preservation of native tissue, and an approach engineered for stability and a natural feel. Pairing it with Motiva’s adaptive implant technology gives appropriate candidates a thoughtfully modern path to enhancement — and reflects his ongoing commitment to bringing rigorously studied advances to his New York City patients.

This approach complements, rather than replaces, the established techniques Dr. Zuckerman offers. Patients who are better suited to traditional breast augmentation — including those desiring larger implants or submuscular placement — will continue to have those options fully available.
